1) Think about what your goals are as an individual and as a parent. Be as specific as you can, and remember that, as a parent, it is important to be as objective as you can about your child's needs. Analyze the goals you have for your child, thinking about whether you are hoping to help your child achieve something because YOU would have liked to achieve it, or whether your motives are purely unselfish.
2) Summarize your thoughts on a piece of paper or card. Write down what you believe are the most important philosophies you should have as a parent. You may like to refer to what you have written at times when you have decisions to make that will affect your child's life.
